10,000 Views Fall 2012! Philosophy Commons

The Philosophy Commons site was created September 21, 2012. Since that time we have had over  10,000 views  and were a Featured Site on the main CUNY Commons homepage. The CUNY Commons Philosophy Department website is an aggregate of information that had previously only been available from a disparate variety of sources and functions like a virtual department bulletin board updated by graduate students.

CUNY GC Philosophy also now has over 100 Twitter followers and over 100 Facebook friends. We hope even more students will continue to post and visit this Site this upcoming semester! Don’t feel shy about posing questions to your friendly Department Social Media Fellow if you want to add something to the Commons, or to create a Site of your own.

Working on this Site, I always imagine the faces I see in the Department on the other side of the screen. But we’ve had visitors from over 70 countries and hundreds of cities (see the list below). 68.67% of the visitors are from the US which means almost 1/3 are international visitors. Below are some stats from WordPress and Google Analytics in case you were interested in seeing the data (numbers are a rare treat for philosophers). The WordPress stats started a few weeks in and the Google Analytics stats start sometime in November.

It’s been a learning experience trying to figure out how to translate philosophy-related content to social media but it seems we’ve gotten off to a good if imperfect start this semester.
